Elite Research at Danish Institute for Advanced Study

The Danish Institute for Advanced Study at The University of Southern Denmark is very proud to announce that our Chair of Technical Science, Professor & VILLUM Investigator N. Asger Mortensen, has been chosen as one of the recipients of the 2018 Elite-Researcher Prize award by the Minister of Higher Education and Research.

The Elite Research initiative aims to raise awareness of excellent researchers and their research. The Prize is awarded to outstanding researchers of international excellence under the age of 45 years. Recipients of Elite Research prices are presented and honored at the annual Elite Research Conference – this year in the Royal Opera in Copenhagen.

Professor Mortensen’s research is within the field of quantum plasmonics – especially the exploration of nanoscale-light-mater interactions. He works on the interface between classical electrodynamics and quantum physics, and his group has helped move the lower size limit for how detailed a level of electrodynamic studies can be implemented. In the long run, it is expected that his research will be of great importance for implementing quantum effect-based technologies for future benefit of society.

Professor Mortensen also has an impressive publication list of more than 230 articles in leading international journals. He has received a number of prestigious prizes and grants, including a VILLUM Investigator grant, and is one of the leading researchers in the SDU Center for Nano Optics. In addition, N. Asger Mortensen has received a number of honorary awards and recognitions of his research efforts – including being Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS), Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA), and Fellow of the International Society of Optics and Photonics (SPIE).
