We are drawn to the beauty of the starred night sky because its story is our story. The journey to explain it will take us from the infinitesimal to the infinite, from the dawn of time to the distant future. As any great story we will discover that it hides mysteries such as the unknown origin and nature of non-shining forms of matter and energy, or why did matter prevail over nothing. Beauty is not just an abstract concept, the fundamental forces of the Universe arise naturally by demanding them to be mathematically elegant. The latest arrival on the fundamental particle chess board, the Higgs, is key to our understanding of the night sky. We will also show that it is a key ingredient in the construction of the next generation of fundamental laws of nature that are currently under intense experimental scrutiny.
