Ice Age: Cultural Analyses of the Science of Freezing

By Charlotte Kroløkke, Professor WSR, Ph.D.
Department for the Study of Culture, University of Southern Denmark (SDU)

Preserve your future. Freeze your reproductive cells or tissue, your pet, or your whole body. Cold storage has given way to a new scientific ice age and has become a pivotal technology in animal breeding, conservation biology, human reproduction as well as a burgeoning commercial practice. This presentation illustrates the workings of a cultural analytical framework on cryobanking. Based on an archive of scientific, commercial, and popular culture accounts, the presentation discusses the rhetorical, aesthetic, and cultural logics upon which the science of freezing draws.

NOTICE! Join the D-IAS network reception in the conference room right after the lecture. Snacks and beverages will be served.
